DreamBox Reading Plus is an adaptive online reading development programme designed to accelerate progress and close the gap – helping pupils in Key Stage 2 become proficient and confident readers.
Adaptive learning
With Reading Plus, each pupil is placed on a personalised learning path. Pupils begin with the diagnostic InSight Assessment, which measures their individual strengths and skills gaps.
Using these baseline results alongside ongoing formative and summative assessments, Reading Plus adapts to target each individual’s specific needs – ensuring every pupil is appropriately challenged to maximise their progress.
Creating proficient readers
Reading fluency is an essential skill for pupils to comfortably finish the SATs papers, and Reading Plus is the only literacy tool that addresses the hidden hurdle of silent reading fluency.
The patented Guided Window guides the reader’s eyes left-to-right across a page of text at a bespoke speed, utilising a moving box. As each pupil’s reading improves, the speed of the box will increase.
The Guided Window keeps pupils focused on reading the relevant material while developing fluency, comprehension, and independent reading at a year-appropriate rate.
Reading Plus aligns with the national curriculum as:
- The wide range of complex and engaging texts ensures pupils are aware of connectedness within the curriculum and the relevance of reading across subject areas.
- Pupils are exposed to unfamiliar texts from topics outside their cultural context.
- The visual-perceptual skill-building and vocabulary development components encourage pupils to build knowledge and mastery of general academic vocabulary.
Foster academic success

Reading Plus provides educators with quick access to comprehensive reports detailing pupil, class, school and trust data.
Teachers can pinpoint pupils needing extra support or challenge in specific skill areas – saving time and resources. This ensures gaps in knowledge are identified and remedied long before SATs arrive.
The KS2 Question Level Analysis Report specifically measures pupils against the KS2 reading domains that are essential for SATs success. Here, you can measure each pupil’s progress and be provided with relevant intervention materials for struggling readers.
An evidence-based programme
Reading Solutions UK partnered with Derby Research School and Spencer Academies Trust to determine the efficacy of Reading Plus.
The results showed that on average, pupils using Reading Plus made significantly more progress than pupils without access to the programme – including pupils eligible for pupil premium, boys, EAL and SEND pupils.
