White Rose Maths

Our maths resources are now used by most primary schools in England, along with a growing number of secondary schools. We offer free schemes of learning, supporting premium resources, digital tools, and high-quality CPD, empowering teachers to deliver engaging and impactful lessons that make a difference in their school.

Primary maths

Our primary resources help teachers create maths lessons that meet all national curriculum guidelines in a fun, inclusive and age-appropriate way. All our material is designed to support primary children as they have fun with maths, exploring everything from times tables and number bonds to money and multiplication.

These high-quality resources inspire children and give teachers the time to teach. It’s no wonder that most primary schools in England now use our free small-step, mastery-based schemes of learning.

Secondary maths

Our secondary maths schemes of learning come with lesson ideas, classroom activities, workbooks and videos, all designed to guide learning and create confidence in mathematical ability. They closely align with the national curriculum at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

As with all White Rose resources, the curriculum is broken down from years into blocks and from blocks into small, logical steps. Each step helps develop core maths skills in students while providing teachers with the readymade foundations of absorbing, inspiring lessons.

White Rose Science

White Rose Science is a fresh approach to the science curriculum using our small-step schemes of learning. Following the National Curriculum for science, our resources give specialist and non-specialist teachers a one stop solution as they support children develop scientific understanding and skills.

We believe that children should be taught science in a way that helps nurture an understanding of the value of scientific skills. We think science learning should be engaging and inspiring. We’ve developed White Rose Science with those goals in mind.

Primary science

White Rose Science takes the highly successful approach we pioneered with White Rose Maths and transfers it to the primary science curriculum. It uses a “small steps” approach to science teaching and closely follows the national curriculum for science for Years 1 – 6.

White Rose Science teaches practical approaches to science and scientific language in a fun and logical way. At the same time, it provides teachers with all the guidance and supporting materials they need to plan and deliver a high-quality science education. Comprehensive training courses support the implementation of White Rose Science in schools.

Like all White Rose resources, our primary science curriculum is broken down from years into blocks and from blocks into easy, logical steps.

• Every small step includes notes and guidance for teachers, key questions and national curriculum links.
• Notes highlight key vocabulary, practical ideas and factual knowledge for key learning points. Equipment is listed for every experiment.
• Premium resources for every small step include a clear, easy- to-follow write-on worksheet, and adaptable teaching slides. All resources provide opportunities, for scientific discussion.

Secondary science

The team have been working hard on our secondary science offering, due for release later this year. Our research led resources provide full coverage of the KS3 and KS4 National Curriculum, with GCSE materials aligned to the AQA Trilogy and separate science specifications.

Yearly overviews are divided into blocks that are further broken down into small, manageable steps. Each scheme of learning outlines the essential content for each small step, highlighting the fundamental factual knowledge, key vocabulary and common misconceptions.

Teaching approaches are suggested such as purposeful practical opportunities, guided explanations and teacher demonstrations.

Worksheets and assessments give students ample opportunity to recall and apply key knowledge from each small step, with interleaved questions to support long-term retention.

Adaptable teaching slides feature retrieval opportunities, key vocabulary, carefully broken-down new learning, dual coding, worked examples and AfL for each small step.

The curriculum has been carefully sequenced to ensure full alignment with White Rose Maths. Students are taught essential maths skills in maths lessons before encountering them in science.

White Rose Infinity

Teachers continue to have overwhelmingly positive views of our resources, and this demonstrates what White Rose currently does extremely well: we provide resources which support teaching for conceptual understanding. This is done through, for example: showcasing appropriate mathematical representations which support pupils’ understanding of mathematical structure; including example sentence stems to develop pupils’ mathematical talk and thinking; and giving suggested questions for teachers to ask which enhance pupils’ mathematical reasoning.

One common point of improvement that teachers provide to us is that our schemes of learning, even when combined with our worksheets or workbooks, do not provide sufficient questions for pupils to engage in fluency practice to the extent necessary for them to have learned securely; this is particularly true when pupils are learning mathematical methods. Our high-quality training options empower individuals and teams in teaching for maths mastery. We offer CPD for early years, primary and secondary teachers, in a variety of formats. Our in-person training for individual teachers or schools helps build confidence, raise pupil achievement and outcomes, and is full of exciting and relevant content.
