The flooring design can be as limitless as the imagination and there are companies that are able to create the most intricate of designs and logos to suit your individual taste and requirements by cutting with lasers or water jets. These designs are delivered to site preformed and ready for inserting and welding into the overall floor finish by your flooring contractor. The design can be further enhanced by the use of contrasting welds if desired. However, when thinking about flooring designs, sometimes people don't quite know where to start - and that's where Altro Art can come in. We have recently put together an 18 page booklet to inspire you with a host of ‘ready made' designs and get you started in thinking about design opportunities when the need for flooring refurbishment arises in your own school. You can choose from simple geometric shapes and animals appropriate for nursery application, indoor game designs for primary children such as hop scotch, snakes and ladders or road layouts, through to more sophisticated borders to lift the long corridor areas at secondary level. Or, of course, you can create your very own unique design.
Creating attractive and inspiring interiors for your school through use of design is not the only benefit of the say to use Altro Art system. Colour and design inlays can be useful to indicate room function, disability access points, changes of level, traffic routes and "no go" areas, particularly in areas of risk. One of the most amusing use of "functional" inlay design was in my early days with Altro, when visiting a school where they had a very high number of newly immigrant children and the boys didn't quite know what to do at the urinal - a pair of footprints cut into the floor soon solved the issue!
On a more serious note, as well as aesthetics, we have also looked to accommodate DDA requirements and we have included light reflectance values for all our materials. The minimum recommendation to meet the latest requirements is a difference of 30 points to help school users to distinguish between horizontal and vertical surfaces. Our large palette of colours makes it easy to incorporate DDA requirements as part of your overall design. Products from our different ranges can also be mixed together, provided they are the same type of material and thickness, further expanding your design options. Your flooring contractor or Altro's own team of education sector experts can help you to choose the right design for your school.
