STEM in the real world

For many young people, scientists are perceived as rather dull characters, locked away in dusty laboratories, carrying out experiments. If they knew however, that at the cutting edge of technology STEM careers are both exciting and well paid, they might see it rather differently. SEN - The changing landscape

The law, and education, is transforming to reflect the changes in the SEN landscape. Recent statistics indicate that as many as one in five children in the UK have a special educational need (SEN); a number that has increased steadily in the past four years.

This has resulted in a number of changes; for example, teachers undergoing Bachelor of Education Initial Teacher Training (BEd ITT) now undertake a module on special educational needs and existing SENCOs now have qualified teacher status. Newly appointed SENCOs now receive accredited training in order to further increase the quality of teaching for SEN pupils in mainstream education.

Bridgeman Education - www.bridgemaneducation.com - is heading up a £1.9 million government funded research project called SILVER (Semantic Interactive Learning Visualisation Environment Research) - www.silvereducation.org - that is exploring new and innovative ways to deliver visualised learning.

Teaching abroad has never been easier...

At some point, most of us daydream about packing our bags and leaving the UK to live and work abroad. But for a growing number of teachers, that dream is becoming a reality. Education recruitment specialists at Eteach International report that they have never been so busy supplying professionals for posts overseas.
